Wood ducks (Aix sponsa) are medium-sized birds, weighing less than three pounds, with bodies less than 2 feet in length. Wingspan is also rather short, which aids aerial maneuverability amidst dense trees. The male wood duck in breeding plumage is arguably the most beautiful North American duck.
